So many people ask me “Why the name? Why Light and Frank?”

When I started training in Interior Design in 2015 I wasn’t sure what would come of it. I felt quite cautious too. Lots of people love to tell you what you should do, or how you could make lots of money.

Or worse, because my other career in human resources is so different I was sometimes met with a fair amount of scepticism and even thinly veiled negative judgement from colleagues, peers, and friends. Interior Design is often seen as a ‘fluffy’, frivolous and non-essential job!

I heartily disagree with this view. Since early man, we have remains that show that we have been seeking safety, adorning caves with paintings and building structures of spiritual significance. Our physical environment affects our physical and mental health, our productivity, and our moods.

Anyhow, back to the question. Why Light and Frank. Frank was my paternal Grandfather. He died when my Dad was a teenager in 1959, so I never met him. When I started to research his life through ancestry I felt a connection to him. It’s unexplainable really, but I know that he aspired to write and was creative. So, I decided that whatever my new business would become, he would be part of it. And, also, I’m known for being straightforward and outspoken!! Frank fits that very well.

Light is essential to design. A well-designed space that is badly lit just doesn’t work. When electricity was invented people were very excited to have central ceiling lights that extended their working day and gave more leisure options. We take electricity for granted now but it was truly revolutionary.

Light is also another word that conjures a sense of a fun or light-hearted approach. It’s really important to enjoy life and find fun and joy where possible. I like to be playful with my designs and make the experience of working with me as light and pleasant as I can.

So, there you go, Light and Frank.
