Meet Michelle - Founder of Light and Frank
Hi there, I’m Michelle
Pleased to meet you! Everyday my aim is to bring positivity and lightness to people through my advice, consultancy and designs.
I love to work with individuals and businesses to uncover your preferences, traits and needs so we can create a space that really works for you.
I know that design tastes are as varied as personalities. What's beautiful to one person is clutter to the next. And when I work with organisations I relish solving the puzzle of creating a space that meets multiple individual needs as well as the collective need.
When I embarked on a career change to interiors I could not have imagined discovering the fascinating subject of psychology of design. It’s such an important and sadly little known area of psychology, with so much to offer us.
The spaces we inhabit impact our lives either positively or negatively every day and my mission is to raise peoples awareness of this and help them to understand it better - by first understanding themselves and then what they need to surround themselves with to be happy.
My working life has taken me through multiple job roles, locations and interests. At the core I was always learning more about what makes people tick. From business psychology, community arts, HR director, charity trustee, careers advisor, networking and events organiser to interior designer my knack for creating a safe and vibrant space for people has been at the core.
I consider the limited resources of our natural environment where possible in my work; whether that is using low VOC paint, buying second hand items or sustainably sourced materials, up cycling old furniture. I am always looking for new ways to live well with the resources we have and minimising our impact on the planet. So many people that I work with want this too and appreciate a considered approach. I am pleased to see that this is becoming a more mainstream approach.
In my personal life I love spending time in nature, enjoying wide open spaces and expensive skies. I find these unspoiled views so inspiring as well as invigorating! Whenever possible I travel and explore different cultures, architecture, art and people.
I live in an old cottage on the edge of the city with two gardens and it takes up quite a bit of my time as I’m often making changes. I also love to comb furniture, vintage and interiors shops in my local area or on the internet at auction, for pieces to save, restore or make over.
Thanks for reading!
